Reel mowers are best for small to medium sized lawns that are mowed on a regular basis. There is some additional effort required, but for most of us, a little exercise is a very good thing.

As mentioned above, reel type mowers are best suited for medium to smaller yards. Other factors to consider are hills, and yard waste, such as twigs and branches. Power mowers will cut through almost everything you run them over while a reel mower will require some pre-mowing yard clean-up.
Age Fitness
There is something very satisfying about successfully maintaining your yard with a reel style mower. You are protecting the environment, providing yourself with some exercise, and saving money by not having to purchase fuel, oil, spark plugs, batteries, or power cords.
Almost anybody can successfully mow their lawn with a reel mower, it does not require Herculean strength or stamina. However, if your desire is to get your lawn mowed as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible, then perhaps an electric or cordless model lawn mower would better suit you.
Conclusion
At around $100 for a better quality 20" model reel mower, you will have a hard, if not impossible time finding a lower cost alternative. At this price, you could buy a reel mower and an electric or cordless mower for those days when you feeling less energetic. I say give one a try!
